Saving Time with Printable Labels in the Classroom

I printed out these name labels right before school started, and after only the fifth day of school, I already need to print out some more!

If you teach in the primary grades, you’ve probably needed to write children’s names on their projects now and then- especially whenever you are displaying them for parent nights, etc.  Years ago, I used to dread writing names on the projects, because with my lousy printing, I just KNEW that I would probably mess SOMETHING up!  And occasionally, I was so terribly busy that I gave this job to a parent volunteer!  It didn’t take me very long to figure out that this could be a BIG mistake, depending on whether or not I already knew what the parent’s printing looked like.  (Um… oops!)  And to top it off, any printing or spelling mistakes a volunteer makes will surely be attributed to the teacher, right?

So one year when I had lots of wonderful volunteers, but didn’t want to risk a problem like that, I thought of printing out names on return address stickers.  And O…. M…. Goodness!  My life got SO much easier right away!  It was wonderful to give this task away to my trusted volunteers with confidence.

Here are some ideas for using labels in the classroom.

– Put names on projects.

– Make graphs, as shown below.

Correct minor errors on a note home that has already been printed.

– Add a sticker in the margin of a letter home to highlight important information.  This can help call attention to something if the label is printed in color, saving ink and money since you don’t have to print the entire page in color.

– Label pockets in their homework binders.

– Put new names on file folders, allowing you to reuse the same ones many years in a row.

– Welcome new children to the classroom by adding names to a door or bulletin board display.  Click on the photo below to see that post!

– Give the kids a sticker to wear home that has a quick, “can’t miss it” reminder about events or schedule changes coming the next day.
