Multi-sensory Learning methods
Multi-sensory learning includes using multiple senses simultaneously to teach and practice the material, thus increasing the number of pathways around the brain able to absorb and retain the information. For some children, especially those with limited preschool experiences, simple shape and number recognition from zero to ten is a problem. Because of this, Heidi developed the Jumpin’ Numbers and Shakin’ Shapes songs, multi-sensory video DVD's and flash cards. The flash cards all have a character embedded into each number or shape. This character jogs the child’s memory to help him remember a motion and the name of the number or shape.
For example, there is a monkey on the number eight card. When the children see it, they are coached to say, “Eight!” while making a monkey motion. Often, if they cannot immediately remember the name of the numeral, when they make the motion the memory is jogged and the number often pops right out of their mouths, much to their surprise!
The movement of the hands work to activate the muscle memory that some children need to help them remember the name of that number or shape. As an added bonus, many of the motions mimic the form of the number or shape. For example, the motion for number eight with the hands overhead and the knees bent forms the shape of the eight. The motion for number four is to hop with two hands up on your head like bunny ears; this is meant to look like the two top lines on a number four.

-How to Teach the Numbers 0-10 and the Shapes
HeidiSongs has partnered with Vimeo to offer you streaming, on-demand videos of many of our DVD's through a one-year rental with Vimeo! This platform brings you unlimited, easy playback on all your devices, anywhere you have a connection. Once your rental purchase is made through Vimeo, all you need is the Vimeo Player app for your devices, and/or an up-to-date browser on your computer, with a fairly fast internet connection, and you're all set! (Please note that this a separate transaction through Vimeo.) While many folks will still prefer the convenience and accessibility of our video DVD's, this video on-demand option is a nice addition for your iPad, phone, or other tablet device. Plus, the one year rental option is a nice way to try our wonderful HeidiSongs videos in your home or classroom, or to supplement your existing DVD's with multiple viewing devices. One other thing to remember is that our on-demand movies play straight through, with no chapter divisions for skipping to specific songs or menu's for navigation, so please be aware of that.
It's important to test your device before you make your rental purchase through Vimeo, as we don't have the ability to refund purchases made to Vimeo if your device is unsupported or if you have a poor quality internet connection to your school or home. Heidi discovered this when she tried to use the videos on her school computer, only to realize the Window's Internet Explorer browser was outdated, and she had to call the district for an update. An easy test is to verify that the movie "trailer" plays well on your device or computer, if it does, you should not have a problem with purchasing a movie.
