World Cup Fever: Learning Activities with HeidiSongs!

Have your children come down with a case of World Cup Fever? If your family has been tuned into soccer matches this month, we think you will enjoy these learning activities!

Here are some fun ways of incorporating learning into all the FĂștbol fun.

Shapes and Colors

With 32 teams playing in the World Cup, there are many different beautiful flags represented. Activity village is a great resource for finding free printables of all 32 flags representing the nations involved in the World Cup.

Help your child practice their shapes and colors buy identifying the different shapes and colors on the flags and coloring in the worksheets.

When they are finished, sing the songs for all the colors and shapes they can find! Check out all the great songs on our Colors and Shapes DvD.

For more shapes practice, see how many shapes they can find on the field during the game. See if they can find the hexagons on the goal net, the circle in the middle of the field, and all the rectangles that make up the field.

Numbers

There are numbers all over the place at soccer games!

Before the game starts, each team takes a group photo. This is a great time to work with your child to count the players on both team. Ask your child, how many referees are there? How many people play each position? How many coaches are on each side?

You can also have your child work on a hidden numbers worksheet to support their favorite player!

When a player scores a goal, sing the Jumpin' Number song for their team number. The captain of the USA team, Clint Dempsey, is number 8. Here is his song so you can practice for all the goals he is going to score!

Letters

Have your child practice writing names by working on team jerseys!

Activity Village has these great team kits that include coloring pages for each team's uniform. Have your child write their favorite players' names on the jerseys. Just make sure they use a capital for the first letter and lower case letters for the rest of the name. This will be different than the real jerseys since those are written using all capital letters.

Cheer for your favorite team by singing and dancing!

Learn the letter songs for the first letter of each player and sing them when someone makes a great play or scores!

Create a cheer that spells out the name, or part of the name, of your teams home country.

Best of luck to all the teams. Enjoy the beautiful game!
