Come to SCKC’s One Day Workshop on October 5th!

SCKC Fall Workshop It’s coming up quick! The Southern California Kindergarten Conference is putting on its first annual fall workshop on Saturday, October 5th, 2013 in Costa Mesa, CA at the Orange County Department of Education.  And I, Heidi Butkus, am truly honored to be presenting for this event with my fellow teacher-presenters Palma Lindsay and Sarah Zolriasatain!  You can register for this event at the SCKC website.  The fee is only $159 for the day!

Just in case you are unaware, Palma and Sarah are the co-authors of the K-FUNdamentals blog. If you are not following their blog, you will want to do that, because it is always FILLED with tons of great, creative ideas!

I will be presenting in the morning on language arts, and Palma and Sarah will be presenting on math in the afternoon!  And just in case you were wondering- YES- I will be bringing along products to sell, so if you are hoping to get some things while you are there and avoid having to pay for shipping, that will be your chance.  We always offer conference day specials, too!

Below is the description for the two sessions:

Heidi Butkus presents:
From Non-Reader to Reader:  MultiSensory Tips and Tricks for Teaching the Alphabet, Phonemic Awareness, and Sounding Out Words!
Do you have a class full of wiggly pre-readers?  They don’t have to sit still to learn!  Come learn some teacher tested and child friendly tips and tricks for teaching kids the alphabet, getting kids started developing phonemic awareness, and teaching them to sound out words through movement.  We’ll also learn some songs to help kids along the way with these concepts. This session is jam packed with ideas that can help you channel your students’ excess energy into a useful learning tool to help you take your little ones from pre-readers to readers in just a few short months!
Palma Lindsay and Sarah Zolriasatain present:

Common Core, Here We Come!  Making Math Fun!

Come and have fun with Palma & Sarah creating lessons and resources for Pre-K, TK, kindergarten, and 1st grade that meet Common Core Math Standards.
This high energy, fast-paced session includes an amazing handout that will have
you leaving with hands-on activities designed to help your students internalize
number concepts such as cardinality, addition, and subtraction.  Learn
techniques and tips to teach number sense, algebraic reasoning, and computation.
Make math come alive as you discover new ways for your students to compose and decompose numbers all while “keeping the FUN in the FUNdamentals!”!

I think that it sounds like a great day!  So grab your friends, come on down for a whiff of that nice beach air and attend the conference.  Then have dinner at the beach somewhere together.  Doesn’t that just sound like a plan?

See you there!
