The CVC worksheets were designed to give children more practice reading words that have the "consonant-vowel-consonant" spelling pattern. CVC Word Families Worksheets Set 2 has a new set of word families for the children to learn. These types of words are supposed to be "easy" for children to read, and therefore tend to be glossed over by many publishing companies in their beginning reading materials. However, children often need extended practice in sounding out these three letter words in order to feel comfortable with them. They also need a chance to practice them within the context of the sight words that they are learning.

There are six basic worksheet formats:

1) Look at the picture and choose the correct word from three choices and write it. The pictures match the flash cards.

2) Find the CVC word from other "look alike" words, and circle it.

3) Draw a line to the matching word and write it.

4) Read the sentence and fill in the blank, using the word bank provided.

5) Read and color: Color each picture with the color indicated in the sentence.

6) Cut and Glue Sound Sort: Sort the pictures by ending sound and put them in the correct column and write the word.

There are bingo games included with each vowel unit. You show the word, sound it out together, then look for the picture and cover it. For the cards with just six pictures, we suggest that the first one to cover ALL the pictures has a bingo.
