Dolch & Sight Word Lists
The Dolch word list is a group of frequently used English words compiled by Edward Dolch, a major proponent of the "whole-word" method of beginning reading instruction. They are difficult to sound out, don’t follow decoding rules, don’t visualize well with imagery and generally must be learned by sight alone. You’ll see these words referred to as Sight Words or Popcorn words since they “pop up” so often, and in lists by Dolch, Fry or other educational experts. We’ve built our Sing & Spell Sight Word list based on a variety of Publisher’s reading programs, but more recently we have started compiling our songs into other lists as well.
