This set of worksheets, 123 pages, is actually a "cloze" activity that uses the words to each song. On each sheet, the the words to the song are written out for the child. However, each time the child comes to the "target" word of the song, there is a blank space for him to fill in the word. This allows the child to practice writing the target word several times, but within the context of the song. For added help, the first time the word comes up in the song, the blank has traceable letters for the child to practice writing that word on the space. After that, he or she simply fills in each blank space with the missing word.
Heidi's students usually start this lesson by reading the lyrics to the song off of a chart, and then "underlining" the target word with Wikki Stix or colored word highlighting strips. Then the children try to read/sing the song back to the teacher when they are finished, touching each word as they say it. This gives them extra practice in tracking words in a sentence and also gives them the feeling of reading fluently.
